Creator Journey Update!
Episode 90
Episode 90 of Talking Comics marks a huge step forward not just for the show—but for our journey as independent comic creators.
This week’s episode blends everything we love about this medium: weekly pull discussions, industry history, trivia fun, and most importantly, progress on The Chronicles of Panel Pete. With printing officially around the corner, the reality of holding physical copies in our hands is quickly approaching. In just a couple of weeks, we’ll be heading to Michigan to oversee the printing process in person—because when you’re publishing your own comic, every detail matters.
We talked about how the comic industry has evolved over the decades, especially during the 1990s when creator-driven publishing began to seriously challenge the dominance of the Big Two. Moments like that reshaped what was possible in comics—and made it more feasible for independent creators to bring their own stories to life without needing to go through traditional gatekeepers.
That’s the spirit behind Panel Pete. It’s designed to be a truly all-ages comic—something that readers of any generation can enjoy together. One of the most consistent pieces of feedback we’ve received from early reviewers is how accessible the story feels. In a landscape where many comics lean heavily into mature themes, we wanted to create something fun, adventurous, and welcoming without sacrificing quality storytelling.

We also discussed our weekly pull list, what we’ve been reading lately, and even carved out time for a little friendly DC trivia competition. These moments are part of what makes the show feel like sitting around a comic shop table with friends—sharing excitement for stories that inspire us creatively.
As we get closer to launch, the support from the community has been incredible. From reviewers to fellow creators to podcast listeners, every bit of encouragement reinforces why we started this journey in the first place.
The road to publishing your own comic is long—but it’s worth every step.
And this time next month, Panel Pete will finally be real.
